Pole Tulipanów The painting entitled Field of Tulips (Polish: “Pole tulipanów”) was painted by a famous graphic artist and a portraitist of plants Mr Adam Półtorak on the occasion of 13th Paralympic Games in Beijing. The painting depicts a field of yellow-white tulips. The number of tulips represents the number of Polish participants to the Paralympics plus one.
The first presentation of the painting took place on 11 September 2008 when the First Lady of Poland Mrs Maria Kaczyńska was officially given a Dutch tulip bulb. A breed of tulip which took its name after Mrs Kaczyńska. The First Lady initiated on that day a project of supporting Polish participants to the Paralympic Games by signing the “plus one tulip” on the painting with her autograph. Later, the painting received signatures from, among many, Mr Krzysztof Szumski Polish Ambassador to Beijing, Mr Longin Komołowski President of the Polish Paralympic Committee, Polish participants to the Paralympics in Beijing and actress Małgorzata Korzuchowska.
TEK purchased the painting on an auction. The income from the painting was given to the Polish Paralympic Committee with the aim of supporting disabled sportsmen. Then, TEK together with the initiator of the painting, PNOS Ożarów Mazowiecki, decided to donate the painting to the 17th auction of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC, Polish Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy, WOŚP).
